Sorry Mars

My last blog of last week was barely posted when I started getting replies. The very first reply was supportive and joking in response to my rebuttal of an article that I read on how we would have people living on Mars by 2023. So I could not wait to see more replies. Much to my surprise, they began to get nasty. Imagine my feelings, as fragile as they are, and how they must have hurt with some of your responses. There must have been a disconnect between the humor and sarcasm toward the article that I was writing about and the people who thought that I was being hateful and disrespectful to “green” people and the occasional vegan. To those who had their feelings hurt and might have been offended, I am truly sorry and will be very careful to never offend little green men from Mars again. No, wait, I mean “green” people who think that batteries are somehow better for the environment than my gas guzzling truck, which I love.
To the vegans who were offended or had their feelings hurt; I am truly sorry and will be very careful to never offend little green men from Mars again.
My dad once told me that if you had to explain a joke then it was not a good one or that you told it bad. My dad left off another possibility…Maybe the audience is too stupid, no that isn’t how you spell what I am trying to say. Umm, Maybe the audience is too self righteous…no that isn’t how to say what I am trying to spell. Well never mind. I guess some people just don’t appreciate or can not understand my supreme intellect when dealing in humor or they are too focused on themselves to be able to understand sarcasm. Either way, it was a fabulous blog filled with great jokes and sarcasm.
I love “green” people. I once sent a whole box of batteries to a the recycling place after I found out they don’t work if you mix them in the gas tank of your lawn mower. See, two attempts at being green in one failure. I even give some of my tax money to support the two electric recharging stations that are at the county park and no one can park there except people who own electric cars. I have seen one parked there in the months since they were installed. I am not sure if it is because people can’t afford electric cars or can’t afford to drive them after paying way too much for them or maybe they ran out of battery power before they got to their free electric charging station that I am helping pay for. You know, I was just thinking, I bet the won’t have that problem on Mars.
I love vegans too. In fact we have one that comes to our church. She is so cute when she gets angry. But I checked with her and she said that everything that I said in my blog was perfectly said and that she wouldn’t change a thing. At least that is what I think I heard her say. But I would have no problem with a meatless Mars; seriously.
I am glad that I got to clear all of this up and everyone is now happy again. I knew it only take one more blog to fix what you were thinking. Thanks for being so patient with me and for understanding. I do feel much better now. So to celebrate I am getting in my truck and driving to the farthest store in town that sells beef jerky and I am going to come home and eat it while I crank the AC down a few degrees so that I can enjoy it after I finish running all of that bad gas out of my lawn mower.
One last thing…I heard absolutely no complaints from talking robots, Klingons, or Romulans. I appreciate them more and more with every blog.

Save The World?

by pastortimfowler

I was sent a disturbing email today from a friend whose company is circulating a warning to its employees about the new light-bulbs and their dangers. The pictures that went with it were very graphic and showed a person’s foot that had been cut by a broken bulb and how the mercury in these bulbs caused massive damage to the foot. I have to be honest with you, I would rather have the earth warm up a half a degree over the next 50 years than to suffer this kind of damage from a light bulb breaking. But nobody questions the “green” people, ’cause they are saving the planet.
When are we going to stop having knee jerk reactions to “science” that is wishy-washy at best. Are you willing to cut down on CO2, which is produced by every air-breathing animal on the plant, far more than our cars produce, and is absorbed by plants, which in return give off oxygen, (remember real science?) in exchange for light bulbs that contain deadly mercury? How does this save the planet? We quit making thermometers that used mercury because there is no doubt that mercury kills, but save the planet, kill the foot lights are okay?!?!
What about the electric car? Has anyone thought of the dangers that are going to come from these? First, the hypocrisy. “Green” people have been telling us about the evils of plastic for a long time now. How it sits in landfills for thousands of years without breaking down. Here’s an idea, leave it out in the sun for a few months and watch in deteriorate. But these same people want us to use lots of large batteries that are housed in plastic to run our cars. What about the chemicals that are in these plastic laden batteries? You mean to tell me that they are safer than the bi-product of us exhaling? I can’t wait for the interstates to be shut down for days due to hazmat teams having to clean up toxic chemicals from the two electrics cars that are saving our planet. I just hope the wind doesn’t ever stop blowing or it never rains again so that the clean energy needed to charge these cars save us from the evil fossil fuels that are reliable and not as toxic as the light bulbs we are being forced to use.
I read where global warming was real. The scientist had determined that the average temp in Antarctica had risen 1.24 degrees over the last 40 years. The average summer temperature there is -17.5 degrees Fahrenheit. So if that is the adjusted temperature for global warming, ICE STILL DOESN’T MELT! And if the average temperature in your neck of the woods is 65, 75, or 85, what changes in your life if now it is 66.5, 76.5, or 86.5? The answer is…nothing.
My dad taught me as I was growing up not to litter, not to pour oil down the drain, and how to keep my car running at its peak efficiency. He made sure that if we went fishing or hunting or camping that we left the place cleaner than when we arrived. I don’t believe in being reckless with our planet, but also don’t believe that humans can destroy it, short of an all out nuclear war. The Bible says that the planet will be here until God decides to wrap it up, not man. I am going to trust God over the weird science of today that is often tied to political motivations and government grants, oh yeah, that goes back to political motivations.
Its time that we began to use our common sense and not be afraid to question something just because it is popular. I love the new light bulbs for the fact that they last a long time. I like being able to make pigs out of watermelons and using the light bulbs as the pig’s tail. I am just not willing to blindly say that it is a better bulb because someone who overlooked the dangerous mercury in them, tells me that it will save the planet. I am not going to buy a car that runs off electricity until someone tells me that it is okay to walk through the chemicals that will spill out if I am in a wreck that busts these planet saving plastic encased batteries, AND…they can prove to me that rechargeable batteries in my car are better than the ones that I just through away because they only lasted 10 minutes in my flashlight. I don’t want to drive my 100 miles on a charge to find out I can’t get home because the next charge only takes me 90 miles.
Think about it.

Casey Anthony Trial

by pastortimfowler

I for one, am thankful for the end of the Casey Anthony trial. I am saddened by the fact that a small child was killed, no matter who did it or how it happened. But the reality of it all is that this happens all the time and we don’t get that upset. Many children are killed everyday out of convenience for the mother’s lifestyle and some even fight for that right to kill. Its called abortion. I think a child is a child no matter how young. One thing that I am certain of is that God will let no sin go unpunished and by the same means He can forgive any sin if asked. But this is not a blog on abortion.
You know it wont be long before something else overtakes the world’s news outlets. Since we have a 24 hour news media, they constantly bombard us with “news” that is not really news at all. It is speculation and opinion. America has become addicted to having people tell us what to think and how to think and who to believe or like. We have lost our ability to think for ourselves. I get so disgusted with how gullible people are and how they form opinions that effect their whole life solely based on what the hear and see on TV or the internet.
When I was in elementary school, the science books taught that a new ice age was coming. I think I missed it during my experimental years of drugs and alcohol. We were also told that if the Soviet Union ever bombed us with a nuclear weapon that we should duck and cover. No one in the media ever questioned either of these and as a child I kept thinking about how stupid these two things were. And ice age? It rarely ever snowed then and because I live in beautiful South Carolina, home of the Gamecocks!, (sorry for the shameless plug) it still doesn’t snow. I asked my teacher about it and she told me that it was a limited ice age and only the colder areas of earth would experience it. Duh.
I asked about the nuclear bomb thing and how radiation worked. The teacher told me that we should be more concerned with things falling on our heads than the radiation. I asked her if it was okay to microwave a cat and she said no it would kill it. I would have never really done that, but I did drop a marble on a cat’s head and it had little effect.
So now we know that we are killing the planet with CO2 emissions. We know that electric cars are the answer. I guess there is no CO2 emitted from the power plants that will have to work extra hard to produce more electricity as we all plug-in our cars. I really love the idea that our power grid can even handle the extra use. We already have brown outs and black outs in the summer due to increase usage and now we all need to plug-in cars? Here is a suggestion; why don’t we all use sails on our cars and skip the windmills and batteries?
We are told that one day the financial situation in Greece is so bad that the whole world’s economy will fail so the stock market dives 150 points. The next day, it isn’t that bad and it rises 200 points. We are told that if we would spend a few trillion dollars that the economy of the US won’t get worse, it does get worse, so we are told we need to spend another trillion or so. At the same time families in the US are told to tighten their belts and pinch pennies. We invest in Brazil to drill for oil and stop drilling in our country because it is a global disaster we need to avert. I forgot that Brazil is not part of our globe and I think it sucks having to pay $15 to fill a motorcycle.
We live in the greatest country on earth. We can solve any problem put before that we put our minds to. The problem is that most Americans have stopped thinking for themselves. Even more, we have stopped letting the Bible be our source of truth and let what we believe come from a bunch of media hype.
